I started a podcast because…

I started a podcast last august in 2020 when I first moved to Los Angeles. I moved from San Francisco in July 2020. I tried to transfer from my job at the RealReal. A luxury consignment company. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to transfer because they had claimed they did not have any positions opened. I had to find a new job when I got down to LA.

Luckily, my rent was inexpensive enough where I had around two months of financial runway to make it.

After I made this podcast, I didn’t have a schedule. I tried to record whenever I felt like it. I just wanted it to be free flowing. I’ve been doing it since I first moved here in August. I just released my latest episode, my first interview episode April 29th, 2021 which featured my good friend, photographer and muscian Michael Ward. I have another interview lined up with music producer and collaborater with 1OFF Project Zbignev Shabutski soon.

It’s been a good time living in LA. Although sometimes I feel like my full time job gets to me and I don’t want it to. I feel the artist struggle deeply. I’ve been making music in one form or another since 2016. I feel a connection to it and I always saw myself on stage. When I went to university at SF State in 2017, I joined a performance group called ICON which was like a co-ed boyband (that’s the best way I can describe it). I felt so good doing this, singing and dancing on stage. I wish I had a picture or video to share here but sadly I don’t have access to any. The group was short lived because the SF state denied the department the right funding needed to go on with the program. We were supposed to go to South Africa and Zimbabwe during the summer of 2017, but that didn’t happen. I was looking forward to it because I am very passionate about travel but never had the money to really execute on that dream…

I felt like I needed to do something with my time that was prodcutive. I wanted to be someone who never stopped. I always imagined myself as something less than extraordinary, unable to measure up to those stars I saw on YouTube and heard on Spotify.

I started this podcast to engage with other humans that I know. Talk about feelings and things that mean something to me, and create a journal for myself. I started Brain Dump because I love communicating, I love friendly conversation and the feeling of being checked up on and checking up on someone else.

If you feel like you need an extra boost in your life and you don’t mind positng your content online, try a podcast. If you don’t like posting online, try video journaling or audio journaling. It’s helped me stay tremendously sane in the COVID pandemic and it will beyond.
